I wasn't frightened in my dream. I was drawn. I knew I was looking at God. I wanted to be engulfed in those waves. Only an ocean can give us some understanding of the immeasurable depths of the heart of God. Of the immeasurable depths of our souls which He fills. "Deep calls unto deep..."
Jesus revealed the depth of God's love for us, in his emptying himself of all divinity, of all privilege, in becoming human, living with us, teaching us, healing us, dying for us. Forgiving all of us from the cross for all the ways in which each one of us chooses to live selfishly - in the illusion that we can live separately, when all life is inextricably bound together.
In a meditation on Divine Mercy, Sister Faustina speaks of the blood and water which gushed forth from the side of Jesus as an ocean of mercy for us: "O Fount of Life, unfathomable Divine Mercy, envelop the whole world and empty Yourself out upon us."
No matter what we have done, no matter what we have failed to do, the waters of mercy flow through us, washing away sin, filling in the lifeless desert of broken dreams and promises with life-giving water. So we can bloom again. Bear fruit. Trust in the power of Love.
"For Jesus is our hope," Sister Faustina says. "Through His merciful heart ...we pass through to heaven."
