will grow and develop, but it's such a marvelous surprise to see when it actually happens! When Octavia began to crawl for us, to stand up, we all clapped for her!
I bet God claps for us whenever we grow, whenever we develop into more of who we really are. For instance, I still remember my Math teachers telling me to stop day-dreaming and to get my columns of figures straight. But numbers seemed so boring!
Today while Paul worked on our budget, I was writing checks to pay my sister's bills, comparing last year's taxes to this year's taxes, and balancing her Trust's checkbook.
I suddenly realized how much I had gained in self-confidence and focus and skill since I started to do these tasks years ago. Why? Now, instead of day-dreaming I was picturing my sister and how much I loved her, how much I wanted to "do right" by her. Love - God inside us - is what impels us to move spiritually from sitting to crawling to finally standing erect, to finally becoming the graced and gracious spiritual adult God has always known we can be.
And I'd swear that as I sweated over that boring Math today, doing it lovingly for my sister's sake, I heard God clapping.
Our son John and his wife Stephanie are in from NYC for the week. Yesterday they brought over our grand-daughter Octavia, whom we hadn't seen since February! What a difference! The little girl who was just learning to sit is crawling all over, pulling herself up on furniture, waving at everybody -just a bundle of energy and personality. I said to myself - "Octavia, you can be ANYTHING!" We are confident that babies
