Do you look at yourself and see a miracle, a graced occasion for rejoicing? God chose you to exist even before your parents did. The day you began to grow in your mother's womb, God was saying "Yes" to all you would be, all you would do. God was weaving you into the fabric of creation, an essential part.
I remember my friend Sr. Karen telling me that many ex-prisoners whom she worked with had never been given a birthday party in their lives until she held one for them. Until their first birthday parties, no one had expressed tangible joy that they existed in this world. So they had never believed in themselves enough to love themselves or think anyone else could. Never knew that God had chosen for them to come into existence because of His love for them.
"You created my inmost being," sings the psalmist in joyful trust to God. "You knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made." If you believe God loves you, that you exist because God chose you to exist, wants you to exist, knows you through and through, then every day becomes a thank you to Him. Every day is a special gift and opportunity to live up to and repay His Love.
