Be not afraid to say "I'm sorry" even if you're not sure you're in the wrong. Those two healing words also mean " I'm sorry there's such pain between us. I want us to be at peace." Isn't that always true?
Be not afraid to enjoy life while you have your health. Maybe that trip needs to be paid off with a credit card. But the memories will be priceless!
Be not afraid to waste time with your loved ones instead of working extra hours. The extra love you give them now means more for their lives than the extra bells and whistles your extra hours would have bought them.
Be not afraid to have children. You may think you can't afford to have them. You can't afford NOT to have them! Children put the finishing touches on your maturity and teach you what really matters in life: Life itself.
Be not afraid to change your mind. The longer you live, the more you will change your mind - if you're really living, loving, and observing, that is.
Be not afraid to change your mind about God. God is much bigger, simpler, knowable, unknowable, approachable, and all-embracing than we give God credit for. We humans are the small-minded, fearful, unduly complicated, and unapproachable ones.
Be not afraid to go off by yourself and rest in silence. Comfort with your own self is a necessity and silence is a gift meant to heal you.
Be not afraid to speak the truth in love. If you die the "little death" of people misunderstanding you, acting judgmental, or heaping scorn on your head, you can trust in eventual resurrection. You have planted seeds that will result in new life for others who hear you, - and new transformed life for yourself because you've been true to yourself and true to God.
Be not afraid to strike out on a new path. There is only one of you so no one else will receive your call from God and no one else can tell you who you can become or what you can accomplish.
Be not afraid to BE afraid - if you're afraid of the right things. Fear being selfish. Fear not loving yourself enough. Fear not living up to your potential. Fear missing out on potential creative endeavors and friendships. Fear not giving God your all. Fear not being a saint. Those fears impel you towards greatness.
Be not afraid of Death. If you have truly lived by loving, risking, trusting, trying, believing, and hoping, then life has already taught you the sweet taste of heaven. New life awaits you, but you already understand what life is because you've plugged into God's Life within you. You've already touched the Face of God in others. You've experienced the beginnings of true oneness with the world. You believe that life is changed, not ended. What's to fear from the good God Whom you know you carry in your heart?
Be not afraid to live. Be not afraid to die. Be not afraid of God. Only fear the fear which would separate you from yourself, others, or God.
