Take a moment of silence. Look. Look at your Nativity set. Or picture the Manger scene at Church. Take a moment of silence to whisper "Thank you, Lord Jesus. Welcome, Lord Jesus."
Maybe you're missing someone, very badly. He or she had to work today. Or is overseas in the Army, Navy, Marines. Or has died during the past year. There's an ache in your heart and a lump in your throat. Look. Look in your mind's eye to the Lord Who gave you the blessing of that person in your life. Whisper into the silence: "Thank You, God, for the gift of all my loved ones. Thank you for the gift of your Son, Who left heaven to come to us, be with us."
And mentally Look, look sadly at the shoppers who have had no idea, these past few weeks, why they were shopping. The impatient ones who tailgated you and drove you crazy. The people who ran wildly from store to store, rudely pushed you out of the way, swore at you. The ones who have so much and who still want more and more and more. How well are they celebrating today? What, exactly, are they celebrating today? In a moment of silence, say a prayer for them. There is a vast sadness and emptiness in their souls. They yearn to be filled but don't yet know the One Who can fill them to overflowing with joy.
Look! The Virgin gave birth to a Son today, the King of Men, the King of Angels. Your soul exalts as if you flew with angels' wings. You are truly blessed because with Mary, Joseph, and the Angels you can sing "Alleluia." Rejoice in your gift of Faith! Pray for others to receive it.
Today, Christmas Day, wherever you are, whoever you are with, make the choice to be happy, to be content with the Now. Today is what you have. Each moment today is surrounded and illuminated by the Greatest Light, the Greatest Love, the Greatest Gift there ever was, is, and will be. There is One Who is loving you through every joyful experience today. There is One Who is comforting you through every secret tear of loneliness or grief that you shed.
Only take one moment in silence today to Look at our God and you will discover God is already - and always - looking at you, with a gaze of inexpressible Love. If you Look at Him often enough, open your heart to Him, He will expand your heart to hold all whom His Son came to save. With Jesus, your heart will encompass the world. And you will Look upon God's world through the Infant's eyes, and with the Infant's forgiving love.
