Go to a quiet place away from everybody.
Be still. No sound. No interruptions.
Just me - and me.
It can be a scary thought. Most of us can't be quiet for more than a few minutes without experiencing anxiety, even panic.
Even when we try to be quiet, our thoughts run on and on, on an endless hamster wheel..
But, you know what? We are not our thoughts.
Our feelings rage and peak and throw us up and down.
But, you know what? We are not our feelings.
If we choose to, we can even mentally stand back from our thoughts and our feelings, as if we're standing in a deeper place inside our souls. We sometimes do that when we're deciding what's right or wrong, or when we're making a decision. We do that because we KNOW that those compulsive thoughts and raging feelings are not ALL that we are.
Who we really are lives deep in our souls, united with God. Who we are IN God is our Real Self. Our Real Self is beautiful, eternal, glorious, much-loved by God. This is the Real Self we can meet when we are still, when we quiet our thoughts and feelings, telling them they don't own us. When we allow our souls to look inside for God - and us - God fills us with peace and a deeper knowledge of who we really are and Who He Really Is.
The Lord of the Universe, the Alpha and Omega lives inside us - by His choice. Every moment, He is waiting for us to become aware of Him. During the day, take time - even a second - to get off the hamster wheel. Still your thoughts, your feelings. Look inside for God. Experience His peace that surpasses all understanding, that fills you with hope and trust.
When you're still, You know He loves you and lives with you - forever.
