Some day, you'll be forced to do it, because someone will be depending on you to do it.
Our very pushy God delights in being a strong Wind of Change in our individual lives. God continually pushes and shoves us into situations that force us to stop our avoidance games and do what we most fear and hate to do.
You have a temper, a tongue honed sharp from much use. You find yourself in a job in which your co-workers or clients drive you up a wall. Curb your temper, learn to be patient, or your workplace explodes and you're out of work.
You love harmony and keeping the peace, but unless you strongly confront a witch hunt going on at work or in your family, some wonderful relationships are going to shatter into disunity.
Your gift is that you are stubborn and don't give up. Your cross is that you are stubborn and you've been shoved into a situation where you have to give up so something better can take place.
You'd rather work quietly with Mathematical figures instead of people. Suddenly you're in love, married and there's a baby on the way. Maybe even twins!
You love family life. Suddenly your children have left the nest and your partner is gone as well.
Over and over, life calls us to become someone whom we think we can never be. We're terrified because we don't have the inner resources to cope and to change. We feel totally empty and helpless.
But we are only empty and helpless when we lose Faith. Faith reminds us that a constant Life Force flows through our veins, the power of Water and Nourishment and Light. At the Last Supper, Jesus comforted and encouraged his followers and us by saying " I am the Vine, you are the branches. Whoever remains in me and I in him will bear much fruit, because without me, you can do nothing." (John 15:5.)
Life often seems to be situation after situation, crisis after crisis in which we collapse and fear that we can do nothing, accomplish nothing, be nothing, because we don't have what it takes.
Because we have to be Divinely Pushed before we're able to admit to ourselves that we're only a branch. We have to be Divinely Shoved before our trembling hearts choose to take courage and reach inside and find where we intimately connect to Jesus, the Vine.
Our God is not an impersonal Force Somewhere Out There. Our God knows exactly what needs to happen before we discover the awesome talents and virtues He's given us. Our God gazes on each of us individually, at the wonderful branches He's grown and fertilized on the Vine of His Son - and how sturdy and green we are, what delicious fruit we can grow to feed the world with - if in Faith we allow Jesus to feed us first. Because we can do nothing without Him. With Him, Jesus also says "Whoever believes in me will do the works that I do, and will do greater ones than these." (John 14: 12.)
But, often enough, Jesus knows us well enough to know that we won't grow into the marvelous, fruitful beings we can become unless Divine Push comes to Divine Shove!
