Maybe you believe but you've been mad at God because you think God took something or someone away from you. Maybe you've been too busy and life's been going great and you haven't really needed God.
But being angry at God makes God our equal, a mere human being who did something malicious. God is human in the Person of Jesus Christ but in Divinity God is All-Powerful, All-Knowing, Always in Existence, All-Love, All-Goodness....This is a relationship in which we're called to become humble and trust God with our entire life and everyone and everything in it.
If you've been too busy for God, you are missing so much that could be in your life - a true participation in the life of God, because that is what prayer is - becoming more and more aware that you are in God and God is in you. You realize that you are completely connected to God and you become conscious that if you say "yes" to God, God's awesome Love working in you can purify and direct your every word and action. God is no longer your spare wheel in an emergency; God is your greatest Relationship, the One Who calls you and leads you into ever-deepening love, patience, wisdom, joy.
Once you are in a daily, even minute-by-minute relationship with God, you realize that your life is not about you and your own. Your gaze is not just directed at your own little world. God's gaze in you widens your gaze to the vast panorama of the world. You no longer pray only for your family and friends. You pray for everyone, especially those who most need prayer. You realize that when you are one with God, you are part of a vast energy field that stretches across the universe. You are a part of the Body of Christ!
St. Paul has the best description of steering wheel prayer:
"I live no longer, not I; but Christ lives in me." (Galatians 2:20.)
